The Paperboys

The Paperboys

Sunday, November 26 @ 7:00PMSun, Nov 26 @ 7:00PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Celebrating their 28th year, Vancouver Canadian musician Tom Landa, is looking back on the legacy of his much-loved folk rock band The Paperboys. For just over a quarter century, The Paperboys have been touring the world and lighting up stages with their freewheeling blend of influences from Celtic and bluegrass, to Mexican son jarocho, brass bands, and Canadian roots. They have been called everything from Cajun slamgrass to worldbeat, they’ve received a Juno award (Canadian Grammy), plus two Juno nominations, two West Coast Music Awards, released nine albums, and regularly play two-night bills in the Pacific Northwest. But that’s not what matters to Landa now. “What means more to me than anything else is to receive letters, emails, or hear stories from people who tell me that our songs helped them through a tough time, or that they used one of our songs for their wedding, or that an album of ours was the soundtrack of their summer. At the end of the day, accolades are nice, but they are nothing compared to connecting with people.” Landa’s song ‘Better Than The Last’ has become somewhat of an anthem for people who have gone through hard times.

Jill Barber “Homemaker CD Release Show”

Jill Barber “Homemaker CD Release Show”

Tuesday, November 21 @ 7:30PMTue, Nov 21 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Having spent the last 20 years playing nearly every folk and jazz festival in Canada and captivating audiences across the globe in Japan, Europe, Australia, Mexico, South America, the USA and the Middle East, Jill Barber, with Homemaker, delivers ten quietly profound songs about the complexities of motherhood, marriage, and the struggle to feel at home in one’s own identity.

Homemaker is a return to Jill’s folk roots. Whereas her most recent albums have been bathed in lush string arrangements, Homemaker sees emotions laid bare, with a stripped-down production style reminiscent of her acclaimed debut Oh Heart and double Juno Award nominated follow-up For All Time.

Chris Pureka w/ Mimi Gilbert - SOLD OUT!

Saturday, November 18 @ 7:30PMSat, Nov 18 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

It’s rare for an artist to bridge the divide between critical acclaim and dedicated fan engagement. Chris Pureka is a Portland-based singer-songwriter whose body of work has resonated deeply with these seemingly disparate milieus. Their music has straddled the folk, americana and indie rock genres over the course of their 20 year career, and over that time, their bold vulnerability in processing the intimacies of life in song has struck a chord with those listeners who crave authenticity and depth.

Chris’s elegant emotionality as a vocalist and their flair as a lyricist have garnered them favorable comparisons to Chan Marshall, Bruce Springsteen, and Patty Griffin. Over many years of touring on both sides of the Atlantic, they have shared the stage with such diverse and esteemed artists as The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Cowboy Junkies, Haley Heynderickx, and Ani DiFranco. They have had their songs featured on such television shows as Brothers and Sisters, Covert Affairs and Shameless and well as a song featured in the Sundance featured indie film, The Royal Road. Along the way, Chris has remained truly independent, selling nearly 50,000 albums through their own label, Sad Rabbit Records.

Lizzy & the Triggermen - SOLD OUT!

Lizzy & the Triggermen - SOLD OUT!

Thursday, November 16 @ 7:30PMThu, Nov 16 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Dubbed "10-piece jazz sensations" (LA Weekly) and "one of the hottest swing bands in LA" (Good Day LA), Lizzy & the Triggermen is forging a path like no other.

Underneath the old school glamour is a captivatingly modern band who is just as at home selling out legendary venues like the Troubadour as topping the jazz charts (#3 iTunes) alongside heavyweights like Miles Davis and Kamasi Washington.

Part of Lizzy & the Triggermen’s “time traveling genius” (Music Connection) is their ability to thrillingly marry the old with the new, simultaneously transporting the audience back in time, and forward. Like the great tunes of the 1930s which so inspire them, their music boldly tackles our modern troubles and turns them into killer dance songs that fill the audience with joy the way only a wailing horn section can. As their debut EP succinctly states: they make “Good Songs for Bad Times.”

Over the Rhine

Over the Rhine

Friday, November 10 @ 7:30PMFri, Nov 10 @ 7:30PM

Mainstage Theatre, 216 Union Street, Seattle

Rolling Stone recently described Over the Rhine as a band “with no sign of fatigue, whose moment has finally arrived.” That’s quite a sentiment for a musical couple marking 30 years of writing, recording and life on the road. “Love & Revelation” is the sound of two songwriters at the height of their powers. Karin Bergquist and Linford Detweiler and their Band of Sweethearts - Jay Bellerose, Jennifer Condos, Greg Leisz, Patrick Warren and Bradley Meinerding - have never sounded more vibrant. While each of the songs can feel like its own short film, the album nonetheless coalesces into a feature-length immersive experience. Dim the lights. May we all be surprised by what we find: a new and much-needed infusion of love and revelation.
